Warhammer 40k:Dawn Of War

Atrox is a Korean Real Time Strategy (RTS) game that has a big following back home but has had little coverage in the UK and claims to bring back the classic elements of RTS game play. Should be interesting.

In 2334AD a scientist tried to separate the good and evil sides of humanity. The scientist happens to be a descendant of Albert Einstein so can be forgiven for being slightly eccentric. As with all geniuses madness is never a big step away so it isn't surprising to discover that the experiment goes a little awry and ultimately has humanity facing extinction. At first it looked like things were going well, the two sides of humanity were separated and two angels created one white and one black (can you guess which is good and which is bad?) Seeing the true nature of the black angel and the danger it represents the scientist tries to destroy it but dies in the attempt. There is a short and ferocious battle between the two angels but finally the white angel is driven off into space. Back on Earth a sub species of the dark angel known as Deltas appear. They begin the subjugation of mankind and war breaks out. The Deltas continue to evolve into different species collectively now known as the Createse.

Humanity is driven back towards the polar ice wastes and begins to embrace robotic advances, starting to implant cybernetic devices into individuals. Soon, almost all that remain are a combination of man and machine creating a race of cybernetically enhanced soldiers, workers and almost any other field of expertise you can think of. As the Hominians (the new name for the human race) dig in for the final battles of their survival, the Createse slow their advance and their attacks become less frequent and less one sided. Quickly it is realised that their weakness is the cold. Safe for the time being, the Hominians consolidate their position and gather their strength and resources to strike back.

In the cold of space the white angel encounters a new race of intelligent robotic life. The combination of the white angel and this new race creates the Intellion. Returning to Earth they find themselves in a battle for the precious few minerals that sustain the other two races as well. Gaining a foothold on Earth, the Intellion, like the Hominians start to consolidate their position against the might of the other two sides whilst seeking the means and methods to take the Earth for themselves. This is what I think the storyline is as it was at times more than a little unclear to me. But if not entirely accurate it is close enough to give you the idea of what is going on. Either way this is where you find yourself, the general of which ever race you choose to champion.

Each of the three races is unique in its own styling, unit types, fighting approach and construction options. This being said there can be seen a similarity between all three races in the way they advance through construction processes. All three sides have a fairly similar army make up so it is not a case of pick an army that suits your own style of game play. Simply choose the one that interests you the most and proceed into the game.

The game play is what you would expect for an RTS title, a combination of tactical battle and resource management. Harvest the required minerals to be able to build and research different advancements whilst defending yourself and your base until such time as you feel able and ready to counter attack. This has been the norm for almost all RTS titles since the very first one; Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis.
