The Europeans were beginning to grab the edge against TaylorMade Burner SuperFast TP Driver the US as the first day’s Ryder Cup fourballs moved into the Belfry's back nine. They were ahead in three match and behind in one.
Thomas Bjorn holed a birdie putt at the par-3 12th to take TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons and Darren Clarke into a one hole lead over Tiger Woods and the veteran Paul Azinger. At the next they halved the hole in birdie threes.
In the second match the unlikely pairing of Sergio Garcia Golf Clubs for Sale and Lee Westwood held a one hole lead after nine holes, Garcia matching Davis Love’s seven-foot birdie putt.
Meanwhile Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer were taking charge against TaylorMade R9 SuperDeep TP Driver Jim Furyk and Scott Hoch. Montgomerie holed successive birdie putts at seven and eight to go three up, before Hoch hit back with a birdie three at the ninth.
