Info:
Storyline
The storyline of AvP2 still hasn't been officially released - however, it's clear that the film takes place in a small town where aliens and predators cause mayhem. The film is also set in 2004 straight after the first film.
Release Date
AvP2 was originally set for an August 2007 release, however it has since been pushed back to December 2007. Currently, the US release is December 25, 2007 and the UK release is January 18, 2008 according to IMDB.
Rating
The MPAA have officially rated AvPR as R for "violence, gore and language".
Aliens
Reproduction - Information about where the aliens come from in AvP2 has caused a lot of controversy. The Predalien will "regurgitate in it's victim's mouth" hence there's no need for Facehuggers.
Alien Hybrids - There may possibly be other hybrid aliens in AvP2.
Update 05-Jan-07 - Puppeteer Morris Chapdelaine: "I was lucky enough to work on all of the above and MORE on AVP2. Without giving too much away- there was certainly a large variety of creature work in this film! I think the fans will go nuts when they see what we have in store for them."
Predator
Predator Weapons/Equipment - The shuriken returns but there's no Disc weapon. The Predator also has a whip as well as dual shoulder cannons which can be fired by hand too. He has a retractable spear too. Some form of medi-kit will make an appearance. The Predator has the blue thermal vision from the original films. The green Alien vision also returns from AvP. There'll be some more visions too.
Experienced Predator - Ian Whyte and the directors have said that this will be an experienced, wiser and older Predator.
Update: 11-Jan-07 - Ian Whyte: "I wanted to play him with supreme confidence, unmatched skill at arms, with the wizened, grizzled, experienced attitude of a veteran warrior."
Predator Suit - The Predator suit is very athletic in appearance and not as bulky as the ones in AvP.
Update: 11-Jan-07 - Ian Whyte: "Apart from little design stylisations to make the character unique, the new costume is entirely reminiscent of the original; it was very tight fitting and was designed to make the Predator more svelte, lithe and athletic in appearance."
One Predator - It's already been established that there will be only one Predator in AvP2. At least for the majority of the film.
Other Interesting Notes
Budget - The budget is still unknown but it'll be less than AvP's $45m budget.
Update 27-May-07 - Assistant Art Director Andrew Li said several times in an interview that the budget for AvP2 was fairly low.
Update 28-Oct-07 - Empire Magazine estimated the budget as $40m.
Rooftop Battle - There'll be a battle on a rooftop.
Update 05-Jan-07 - Puppeteer Morris Chapdelaine: "There were a lot of favourite scenes but I have to say that the battle on the rooftop was amazing! We worked on it for over 2 weeks and it was brilliant not only because of the sheer number of creatures involved, but because of the tense nature of the sequence and the choreography of the fighting. There is some stuff that has never been seen before- weapons, gadgets and hand to hand combat that is sure to pique everyone's interest."
Director Comments
The Strause Brothers frequently visit the AvP2 Boards on IMDB and AvPGalaxy to post things. Here's a few interesting points they've touched on.
Alien
CGI Aliens - There will be a few fully CGI aliens but a lot of the time it will be Tom Woodruff in a suit with a CGI tail.
Daylight - We won't be seeing any aliens in the daylight.
Predator
Nickname - Through Production, the crew named the main Predator, The Wolf.
Storyboards - Talented comic-book artists were hired to help the directors with their storyboards. They also did CGI pre-vis for the big sequences and pre-edited a huge portion of the film before they started filming.
Music - The score will be orchestral.
Sound Effects - Similar Alien/Predator sound effects to the originals.
Visual Effects - There's between 400 and 500 visual effects shots in AvP2.
AvP3 - The Strause Brothers did a pitch for AvP2 that was set in space. They are saving this idea for the future.
Length - Colin Strause said that the length of AvP2 will be around the same length of Predator which was 100-108
